Connection Between Hajj And Eid Ul Adha

The Connection Between Hajj And Eid Ul Adha is a widely debated issue among the Muslims of all the world. A small group of Muslims think that Eid ul Adha must be celebrated after the day of Arafat and the Islamic calendar should be dictated from Makah to all the Muslims of the world. Whereas other groups of Muslims think that there is no connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha, both are separate religious events. And they must depend on the sight of the moon. There are some arguments in favor of a larger group of Muslims:

When Hajj and Eid Ul Adha Started:

Prophet (PBUH) initiated the two Eids after He (SAW) witnessed the people of Madina celebrating two Eids. He introduced two Eids as an alternative Islamic festival to celebrate. It is narrated that prophet (PBUH) celebrated first Eid in Madina in the first year of migration. According to some other reports these two Eids were first celebrated in second Hijjri.

Whereas Hajj was made obligatory in the ninth Hijjri. In the first year, Prophet (PBUH) sent Hazrat Abu Bakar as the head of the group to perform Hajj. If these two Islamic events are closely connected to each other than Allah and His Messenger Prophet (PBUH) must start the two simultaneously.

Confirmation of Hajj Date:

Eid ul Adha is celebrated by Muslims on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. It is reported that Prophet (SAW) never tried to find out the date of Wuquf of Arafat in order to find any connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha during His stay in Madinah.

Prophet (SAW) never sent anybody to Makah from Madinah to find out the date of Arafat to celebrate Eid ul Adha according to it. These events show that there is no connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha. Eid ul Adha is connected to the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, not with the observance of Hajj.

After Hajj Become Obligatory:

There is no connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha even after Hajj became obligatory. Prophet (PBUH) never tried to find the day of Arafat to celebrate Eid ul Adha according to it. Instead, He (SAW) always goes with the local sight-seeing of the moon with Madinah authorities.

Muslims Practices Since The Time Of Prophet (P.B.U.H):

From the last fourteen centuries, it has been seen that Eid ul Adha and Hajj both are the separate Islamic events with no connection between them. If any connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha exists Prophet (PBUH) would have told His followers. This is the reason why classical jurist has not been worried about this issue. They seem to be fine by linking Eid ul Adha with the 10th of Dhul Hijjah according to their local moon sight-seeing instead of celebrating it with the 10th of Dhul Hijjah in Makah.

Conclusion:

Unity in Muslim Ummah does not mean centralization. Hajj is an essential pillar of Islam and is performed in the holiest place on earth. And Eid ul Adha is also the second biggest religious event. But there is no connection between Hajj and Eid ul Adha.
